We are now French Provincials

An early morning start began with our coach ride to Gare de Lyon in Paris where we caught the TGV fast train to Aix-en-Provence. It was a comfortable 3 hour trip passing fields of brilliant yellow - clearly a source of inspiration for Van Gogh in his day.
On arrival in Aix, we were taken to our rustic provincial hotel accommodation which has so much character with really comfortable rooms. We spent the afternoon walking the cobblestoned narrow lane ways of this medieval town up to Paul Cezanne's studio and the lookout from which he painted his famous landscapes of Mont St Victoire. It was a somewhat strenuous walk up the hill but we are used to slopes and stair climbing after our 4 days walking around Paris.

At the painters lookout over Mont St Victoire. Cezanne walked daily from his studio up the steep hill with his canvas and easel to paint his artworks. He was in his 60's when he did these works.

Mont St Victoire from the painters lookout. It changes colour at different times of the day, inspiring artists to capture its beauty. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to paint like Cezanne.
