Medieval Mastery

Today we visited Le Baux de Provence, a Medieval village perched on the top of a mountain made of  bauxite. During the Middle Ages, the Lords of Le Baux, ruled over their region from a castle atop the mountain. We were sent back in history to this time with 'Les Medievales Des Baux', a live performance with catapulting, jousting and crossbow archery. The castle itself, is in ruins, destroyed centuries ago.

We all had a picnic lunch in the grounds of the castle sampling very delicious local French cuisine.

After our medieval experience we drove a very short way to the Carrieres de Lumieres, a rock quarry that has been carved into enormous rooms with projections of artworks on to the walls and floor. The exhibition was on the Viennese Succession artists with Gustavo Klimt, Egon Schiele and Hundertwasser as the main artists on show. It was amazing as you experienced the sensation of walking through an artwork rather than just viewing them in a museum.
