Customs and Restrictions

Certain customs must be respected when visiting foreign countries.

CLOTHING:
Do not wear singlet tops, crop tops, mini jean shorts, and mini skirts as these are considered inappropriate in Dubai and in churches and some areas of France and Spain.
In Dubai shoulders and thighs must be covered.

NOT SO FRIENDLY:
Be aware of some locals that ask for assistance or want to sell you something.
Pickpockets often work in teams and as one distracts you, another is removing your valuable possessions, while another is waiting with a car or motorbike for a quick getaway.

There is a travel warning for France and Spain for pickpockets. Therefore, it is best to keep your wallets and important documents safe while travelling. Money pouches and belts can be worn under your clothes to protect money, cards and passports.

  • Use carry bags and hand bags that are closed by flaps, zippers and locks.
  • Wear your bag across your body at the front rather than over your shoulder or clasped in your hand and be aware of foreign movement.
  • Never leave your bag unattended or your handbag hooked over a chair while having something to eat.
  • Avoid wearing bumbags as they spell out 'tourist' and are a favourite of pickpockets.
  • Some areas of Paris and The Ramblas in Barcelona are particularly frequented by pickpockets.
